Students with an overdue book will not be allowed to checkout until the overdue item is returned.
If a book is lost or damaged, the student must pay for the replacement of the book.
Students must not loan their books to other students or take books on vacation. Once a student checks out a book, it is ultimately their responsibility to return it.
We emphasize to students the need to be responsible and respect the books that they use because they are shared by the whole school. Parent cooperation is very important and appreciated in this matter.
Accelerated Reader Program
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a web-based reading program. Students earn points by passing AR quizzes in their reading range. Their range is determined by the STAR test which is given at the beginning of each quarter.
AR quizzes can only be taken on a school computer during school hours.
Any book can be read as long as it is within a studentŐs reading range. To check if a book can be used for AR, go to arbookfinder.com online.
Students participate in AR incentives such as the PrincipalŐs Reading Raffle. If students score an 80% or above on their AR quiz, their name may be drawn at the end of the week to earn free recess.
The AR TopPoint Earners quarterly incentive allows students who earn the most AR points in their class, an opportunity to be invited to a cookies and punch party in the Media Center.
WPKN
Whispering Pines Kids Network (WPKN) is a select group of fifth grade students that work together to produce the morning announcement. Each group rotates duties and learns teamwork in a TV studio setting.
